![]() There are eighteen different occupations that the people in the city can perform from farming, hunting, and blacksmithing, to mining, teaching, and healing. Surviving the winters will be among your greatest challenges. ![]() Your tailors can make clothing, your people can build houses and burn firewood. But necessities have a price - cutting down forests reduces the deer population you can hunt. Although your foresters can plant new trees, the cures for many diseases can only be found in forests that have existed for decades. Farming for many seasons in one place will ruin the soil. Wandering nomads can join your town to grow the population quickly, but allowing them in increases the chance of illnesses from far off lands! Getting Started Taking fish and game faster than they reproduce will lead to extinction, and your starvation. In the game of Banished you are leading a group of settlers who have been banished from their home. It is up to you to organize your workers to clear land, gather resources, and to construct a new settlement to live in. Most basic of functions including: Main toolbar Clearing some land, Stockpiling Resources, Building structures such as houses, fishing docks, and wood cutters, Allocating workers to professions, Survival The second tutorial will teach the player how to produce manufactured goods that will help their citizens brave the harsh conditions Food Production The third tutorial is focused on the various methods of producing food for the settlement such as farming, planting orchards, hunting wild game, and raising domesticated animals. Trade The final tutorial teaches the player the basics of trade, an important aspect of playing Banished. ![]() Once you have completed all the tutorials, you can return to the main menu and start a new game. Difficulty levels There are 3 difficulty levels in Banished. Housing for your first few families should almost certainly be built prior to the first winter to avoid losing citizens to hypothermia. A Wooden house for each family is suggested, placing them near worked buildings for best results. This has the benefit of increased productivity as your citizens have to travel less distance to their jobs. A Stone house uses a large amount of stone and can be a wasteful use of resources early on. However, they do use less firewood in winter, which makes more logs for construction or for items like tools. Buildings and ConstructionĪll buildings are constructed by selecting a category and then a building using the main toolbar. For example, to build a foresters lodge you would first select the button for Resource Production and then the button for a forester lodge. ![]() After selecting the building, you can place it on the landscape. By default, you can rotate the building using the R and T keys. The green arrows on the building point to the front of the building, and show where the building may overlap a road. If a building cannot be placed, the green highlight will turn red. Clicking the left mouse button will place the building. Some placed items, like crop fields and roads are variable sized. In this case you can click and drag over the landscape to place them.Banished is an urban strategy game from Shining Rock Software, published on February 18, 2014.
